Splitrock Farm and Retreat offers guests access to 101 acres of land, which includes beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean to the southwest and Big Bear and Mount Jacinto to the northeast. Hipcamp named Splitrock its #1 Glamping site in America for 2023. Guests have access to 6+ miles of walking and biking trails, including the Splitrock 5K (3.12 miles) that covers most of the property and all the key features and viewpoints. Splitrock is located 5 miles from downtown Fallbrook, 14 miles from wine tasting in Temecula, and a mile east of Camp Pendleton Nature Preserve. 

There are currently 16 campsites at Splitrock Farm and Retreat that are bookable via Hipcamp, Airbnb, and VanLife Campgrounds. The campsites vary from communal tent camping to unique glamping. Preview the campsites at our website www.splitrock.camp

As our Co-Camp Host, you will be responsible for managing camper communications, facilitating campsite turnovers and maintenance, and providing a welcoming and supportive environment for guests. This position offers a unique opportunity to blend hospitality management with hands-on farm experience, all while enjoying the tranquility of our natural surroundings.

As part of your work-stay 10 hours per week, you may be asked to perform these tasks according to your skills and interests during designated shifts. These tasks are shared across several Co-Camp Hosts:

  • Communicate with campers before and after their arrival to provide essential information, answer questions, and ensure a smooth check-in and check-out process.
  • Coordinate inquiries, reservations, and add-ons (Camp Shop, Experiences, Events) through email, phone, or online platforms, maintaining accurate records and calendars.
  • When requested by the guests, personally welcome guests upon arrival and provide orientation to the campground facilities and amenities.
  • Monitor campground areas for cleanliness, safety, and compliance with rules and regulations, addressing any issues or concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Create social media posts to promote Splitrock Farm & Retreat. 
  • Update the booking apps with new sites, photos, descriptions, add-ons, or other information. 
  • Assist with campsite general maintenance activities as needed, including gardening, landscaping, and facility upkeep,.
  • Foster a warm and inclusive atmosphere for campers, volunteers, and community members, embodying the values of hospitality, respect, and environmental stewardship.

Camp Hosts at Splitrock Farm and Retreat have the ability to earn income through camping add-ons, events, classes, and activities. Camp Hosts are expected to share the load in campsite turnovers and tent set-ups. The other income opportunities are optional and limited.

  • Coordinate campsite turnover between guests, including cleaning, restocking supplies, and ensuring each site is prepared to welcome new arrivals. You will be paid $20 per glampsite, $10 per private campsite, $3 per communal campsite turnover you perform.
  • Commission on Camp Store sales. We stock firewood, mugs, S’mores Kits, and other camping needs and forgetful items. Camp Hosts receive 10% commission on their sales in the Camp Shop, and 50% commission on profit for items they procure or create.
  • Facilitate, coach, or teach wellness, fitness, art, and education offerings. Splitrock Commons includes a yoga platform, geodome, amphitheater, catering kitchen, FarmFit exercise area, and MindFit Manifestation Hike. We currently offer yoga, soundbaths, breathwork, and more…. What can you offer? Rate is negotiable based on experience and demand.
  • Event sales, operations, and/or management. Earn commission on event ticket sales, or partner with Splitrock and share revenues by hosting your own event that vibes with Splitrock’s character.
  • Create your own business that co-ops with Splitrock’s services. What service or product can you offer to create and sell? Farmer? Fitness instructor? Craftsman? Animal care?

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in hospitality management, campground hosting, or customer service is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse individuals and handle guest inquiries and concerns with tact and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail and a commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences.
  • Passion for sustainable living, outdoor recreation, and community building.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to participate in physical farm work and outdoor activities as part of the work trade arrangement.

What Camp Hosts can Expect from Splitrock

  1. Accommodation – we prefer that our work-stayers arrive with their home, usually a van, skoolie, or RV. We can set-up a 13ft diameter (192sqft) bell-tent for temporary accommodation for up to two weeks. What we lack in accommodation options, we excel in living in paradise. Immersive experience in a tranquil natural environment, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, wildlife and farm animals, fresh air, and the sounds of nature.

  1. All work-stayers are welcome to take any open seat for free in most of our weekly wellness and fitness activities. This includes yoga, soundbaths, guided hikes, and much more. Splitrock hosts regular live music and community events to participate, volunteer, or attend. 
  2. Access to amenities and facilities offered by the retreat, including hiking trails, meditation spaces, a communal kitchen, and more.
  3. Learn, network, and collaborate in a strong, supportive Splitrock community of work-stayers and VanLifers. Learn new skills in sustainable living, permaculture, off-grid lifestyle, community building, rights of passage, event management, hospitality, farming, animal husbandry, entrepreneurship.
  4. Limited contracted pay
